RUSSELLVILLE, Alabama -- A father in Franklin County has been charged with capital murder in connection to the death of his 3-month-old son who died almost two years ago, reports The Times' news partner, WHNT News 19.
Diego Pablo Larios, 23, is accused of violently shaking his baby, which led to his death. The case started when medics responded to a home in Russellville's Town and Country Trailer on July 2, 2011. They found the baby and rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said there is evidence the baby died after he was violently shaken.
Since then, investigators have been building a case against Larios. A capital murder warrant was issued for his arrest Wednesday. He was caught in Decatur and taken to the Franklin County Jail without bond.
Oliver blamed large backlogs at the state forensics lab for delaying the case.
If convicted, Larios could face the death sentence.
