Star Wars: The Last Jedi has opened to rave reviews from critics, and fans will get a chance to find out for themselves when the film gets its wide release later this week.

But the film's leading lady Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, admitted on ITV's Lorraine this morning (December 13) that she had concerns about reprising her character.

"I didn't feel as comfortable going into it because the first one had just come out and it was nuts," she explained to host Lorraine Kelly. "I was like, 'Ah I don't know how to do this again!' Like I don't know what I did first time round.

"But I think that by the end of it, I was like now I have a sense of her, which was great. Right at the end of it."

She added: "It feels nice because I think as you're watching the film, you're totally seeing where she's going and why she's asking the things she's asking. You're learning the answers at the same time as she is."

During the interview, Daisy also opened up about what it was like to work so closely with Star Wars legend Mark Hamill aka Luke Skywalker, and she talked about building a friendship during filming.

"It was fun to do because Mark and I were getting to know each other as we were filming it," she continued.

"So there was a sense of – I think we did it pretty chronologically – so there was a sense of our relationship was building as the characters were, which was wonderful. It was comforting to do it that way."

In the new film, the late Carrie Fisher reprises her role of Princess Leia for the final time following the actress' tragic death on December 27 last year.

Opening up about the star, Daisy praised Carrie's performance in the film, describing her work as "amazing".

"It's sort of odd that some of those scenes, the things that are said, it seems weirdly true, it's very emotional," the actress added.

"[Carrie] is amazing in it and I think it's a testament to her."

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is cinemas across the UK tomorrow (December 14). Lorraine is on ITV, weekdays at 8.30am.
