‘Video Games Live’ concert on Friday

DOHA: Gamers and music enthusiasts in Qatar are in for treat as globally acclaimed “Video Games Live” concert spectacular returns for the third time at Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) on Friday.

The phenomenal video game music show will play well-loved music from the most popular video games of all time such as Super Mario Bros, Halo, Warcraft, Final Fantasy, The Legend of Zelda, Sonic the Hedgehog, among others. This is the third consecutive year the concert will be staged in Doha following the success of the previous shows. 

With the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra providing the music under the baton of award winning Irish composer and conductor Eimear Noone, the concert promises a dazzling show featuring synched video, lights, lasers, and effects.

Noone is known for composing music for video games, feature films, television, and commercials, and conducting classical and game music concerts. Most recently, she composed and conducted for the iconic video game, World of WarCraft and its new expansion, Warlords of Draenor, the score of which received the 2014 Hollywood Music in Media Award for “Best Video Game Score” and was nominated for five Annual Game Music Awards, and the ASCAP Composer’s Choice Award for Game Score.

To be held at QNCC Al Mayassa Theatre, the concert hosted by Laura Intravia will highlight performances by Qatar Philharmonic Choir with the participation of Qatar Concert Choir. Giovanni Pasini will be the music director and Felicitas Fuchs the choirmaster.

German soprano Fuchs has appeared on numerous occasions with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, including Magic Flute, Hänsel and Gretel, as well as Mozart arias under the baton of James Gaffigan. A versatile concert artist and committed recitalist, she has performed at renowned places such as Philharmonie Warschau, Herkulessaal München and has been a welcome guest at many national and international festivals.

There is more to the concert as Virtuocity provides gamers attending the show three activities which will be open before the concert, during the intermission, and after the concert ends. The first area will offer free play on the latest game systems. A second, music-based area includes the opportunity for concertgoers to gamify music and play through favorite songs. A third area showcases ways to see video game music in a new light in an interactive setting.

Video Games Live is an immersive concert event created and produced by game industry veteran Tommy Tallarico. The show has seen top orchestras and choirs around the world perform along with exclusive synchronized video footage and music arrangements, synchronized lighting, well known Internet solo performers, electronic percussion, live action and unique interactive segments resulting to a complete entertainment experience. It has performed more than 400 international shows and has set several Guinness World Records titles.
