Facing the music: On Tuesday Taran Noah Smith has admitted to possessing drugs and pled no contest to DUI
Home Improvement star Taran Noah Smith has been convicted of DUI and cannabis possession.
The 28-year-old pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing drugs and no contest to driving under the influence.
Smith has been sentenced to a 12-hour program for the latter offence, and a six-month drug diversion program for former.
He was also placed on three years probation, and is due back in court in June.
He was charged in February after police spotted him behind the wheel of his Honda Accord in Los Angeles.
According to TMZ, when cops approached the vehicle they detected the smell of cannabis and arrested him.
Taran shot to fame after starring as the youngest son of Tim Allen's character on Home Improvements.
The show ran from 1991 until 1999, and was one of the most popular sitcoms of its time.
While he made a pretty penny on the show, when he got control of his $1.5m trust fund at the age of 18 he accused his parents of squandering some of his money on a mansion for themselves.
However he was ungrateful for his fame and fortune, complaining in 2001: 'I started Home Improvement when I was 7, and the show ended when I was 16.
'I never had the chance to decide what I wanted to do with my life. When I was 16, I knew that I didn't want to act anymore.'
He married Heidi Van Pelt in 2001 when he was just 17,and it sparked conroversyt as she was sixteen years Smith's senior.
The marriage ultimately ended in divorce just six years later.
His acting career has now pretty much dried up, bar some appearances on nostalgia TV documentaries.
He was so cute: Fans of Home Improvements will be shocked Taran (bottom row left) turned out such a bad seed
