The Teutuls Reviving 'American Chopper' On Discovery Channel

NEWBURGH, NY — The team behind Orange County Choppers is reviving the reality television show “American Chopper” after being off the air for five years. Paul Teutul Sr. and Paul Teutul Jr., who build legendary custom motorcycles, will be back on the Discovery Channel in the winter of 2018.

According to the Discovery Channel, “American Chopper” averaged 3.4 million viewers and ranked as the channel’s highest-rated original program at its peak. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

“American Chopper was one of Discovery’s most popular series ever,” said Rich Ross, group president of Discovery, Animal Planet and Science. “Everyone is eager to see what the Teutul family has been up to. This winter, you’ll find out.”

Paul Sr. has revamped Orange County Choppers, located in the Town of Newburgh, and turned it into a complex with a shop, cafe, bowling alley, restaurant and motorcycle showroom.

However, because of the hefty price tag for the changes, he’s feeling the burden of having high overhead and a lack of foot traffic, the channel said.

Paul Jr. has also been feeling the sting of a rough economy, with high-dollar custom-builds and commissions harder to come by.

Plus, he is stressing about his own shop — Paul Jr. Designs — and its long-term stability, especially now that he has his own family.
