Jon Hamm is given an offer he can’t refuse in 'Beirut' clip (exclusive)
Although he starred in one of 2017’s finest films, Marjorie Prime, Jon Hamm has yet to truly find the big breakthrough film role that fans have been waiting for ever since he finished his run on AMC’s Mad Men. He’ll once more strive to wow cinematic audiences this April when he stars opposite Rosamund Pike in Beirut, a political thriller about an American navigating the treacherous terror-wracked streets of Lebanon. The film will have its world premiere next week at the Sundance Film Festival, but ahead of that bow, we have an exclusive clip from the film.
In Beirut, Hamm plays Mason Skiles, a former U.S. diplomat who finds himself compelled to journey to the title countryin 1982 to help rescue a colleague from the outfit that may have had a hand in the death of his own family years earlier. It’s not a mission that he’s eager to take, as the above scene from the movie (directed by Session 9’s Brad Anderson and scripted by Michael Clayton’s Tony Gilroy) makes abundantly clear. Having been dragged into a meeting with Rosamund Pike, Shea Whigham, and Dean Norris’s government spooks, Skiles learns that he’s been personally requested to broker a kidnapping deal with some still-unidentified Lebanese terror group. It’s a task that he wants no part of, but upon learning who the snatched person is, he also realizes that this is probably the sort of CIA proposition to which he can’t say no.
Beirut premieres Jan. 22 at Sundance and arrives in theaters on April 13. Watch the trailer:
