POLICE: Man found dead on tracks was stowaway on Amtrak train

A man found dead on railroad tracks in one Eastern Carolina town was a stowaway on an Amtrak train, according to police.

Enfield police have identified the man as Varcy Locklear, of Pembroke.

They found his body around noon Tuesday on the tracks along South East Railroad Street near Plant Street.

Police believe the man fell or was trying to jump from the train while it was still moving. He was struck and killed by the train.

Amtrak says the train, from Charlotte to New York, was delayed for about 45 minutes, while police investigated.

Enfield police, along with CSX and Amtrak police are continuing to look into the death.

Enfield Police Department and Amtrack and CSX Police are investigating the death of a man who was hit by a train.

Enfield Police responded to South East Railroad Street near Plant St in Enfield regarding a person that was unresponsive lying on the railroad tracks.

During the investigation, police learned the individual had been struck by a train. Captain Bozard and Lieutenant Murphy with the Enfield Police Department are working with Amtrack and CSX Police to determine what happened.

The Investigation shows that the deceased person struck was not a local native to the area. Further details regarding will be released at a later time once next of kin is notified.
