Former Northern Ireland police station on sale with £850k price tag

The former PSNI station in Craigavon which has gone on sale

A former Co Armagh police station has gone on sale for £850,000.

The property in Craigavon, which also includes a section of land, is being sold off by Lambert Smith Hampton.

It includes a former police station of “modern construction, set on a secure and well fenced site of 1.9 acres”.

“Internally, the building is divided into several smaller rooms, as is typical with former police station buildings,” the sellers said.

“This rear portion of land can be accessed via the Legahory Road or via the adjacent private residential development known as Rowan Park, off the Tullygally Road.

“Previously this rear land has been developed for housing and the road infrastructure remains, although this is now largely overgrown.”

The ex-police station is the latest in a line of PSNI properties to go on sale.

Just last week, a former station went on sale for £225,000 in Co Londonderry.

The station at Coleraine Road in Maghera is also being sold off by commercial property firm Lambert Smith Hampton.

It’s one of a dozen ex-PSNI stations which are due to be sold off as part of new cost-saving measures.

The stations at Aughnacloy, Ballyclare, Ballynahinch, Castlederg, Cushendall, Maghera, Moira, Portaferry, Tandragee, Warrenpoint, Willowfield and York Road in Belfast are already closed to the public and do not have officers or staff working in them.

It’s thought the move will generate an estimated £1.5m for the NI Policing Board, which owns the police estate and result in annual savings of about £600,000.

The Maghera site includes almost 10,000 sq ft of building space, sitting on 0.69 acres of land.

Lambert Smith Hampton said it is “suitable for refurbishment, residential and, or, commercial development”, subject to the suitable planning law.

A three-year strategy for the police estate also includes plans to invest in three new police stations at Armagh, Cookstown and Ballymena, the redevelopment of facilities at the Police College in Garnerville, and new custody provision in Craigavon and the Waterside in Londonderry.

Last year, a former police station on the Ormeau Road in south Belfast was also sold to an undisclosed buyer.
