The Dutch coach is not giving up on his quest to bring in a top midfielder and has offered some thoughts on another Serie A star.

Despite being seemingly rebuffed by one of their top transfer targets this summer, some reports claim that Louis Van Gaal has not given up on signing a midfielder this summer.

Juventus star Arturo Vidal appeared to rule out a move to Old Trafford recently, yet he didn't commit to staying with the Serie A giants, and ultimately claimed that he would speak with new Bianconeri coach Massimiliano Allegri in the upcoming week.

As per Sky Sports, the Dutch tactician, whose last post was with the Oranje at this year's World Cup is still considering bringing in another calcio import, with one of his compatriots being on his list.

Despite suffering a bad knee injury earlier this season, Roma's Kevin Strootman is still widely regarded as one of Europe's premier players in the middle of the park and this has not gone unnoticed by the man who surely would have liked to have him fit to feature in Brazil.

On his wish list? Van Gaal has long been an admirer of compatriot Strootman's talent and would have liked the Giallorossi star to be part of his 23-man squad in Brazil

"Other players, not at Manchester United, I can't judge - I am not there. Strootman I can judge, but he has been injured for more than six months," he replied when asked about other possible acquisitions.

"We have to wait and see how he comes back. It's not so easy to come back [from] of an injury."

Italian reports had claimed that a £30 million bid had been submitted for the Dutch international, but Roma coach Rudi Garcia was quick to proclaim that the player would not depart the capital side this season:

"Strootman is a Roma player, he will be a Roma player this year. There is no doubt about that," the French tactician stated.

"Only he can say whether he wants to stay but it was never an issue for him to go to another club. There is no question [about that]."
