FAIRBANKS — Going to a Quinn Dahle show is like opening a gift from your Secret Santa at work. Could be chocolate. Could be socks. Or, if you get really lucky, it might be a fifth of bourbon. Depending on the crowd, anything could, and likely will happen when Dahle takes the stage Saturday as part of the Alaska Comedy season.
Fresh off a development deal with 20th Century Fox, Dahle has appeared on “The Tonight Show,” Showtime, Comedy Central, Lopez Tonight and Carson Daly. He also has rubbed shoulders with comedic legends such as Robin Williams, Drew Carey, Tim Allen, Dane Cook, Dana Carvey, Norm McDonald, Brad Garrett, Jon Lovitz, Bill Maher, Frank Caliendo, David Alan Grier, John Witherspoon, Tommy Chong, John Pinette and Harland Williams.
Originally from Minnesota, Dahle moved around the country before settling in Los Angeles a few years ago, marrying a Mexican-American woman from East L.A. He mines the humor in that relationship and the cultural disparities for an incredibly personal, and incredibly funny, show. It’s also the basis for a sit-com he’s developing.
But it’s the improvisational back-and-forth with the audience where he shines.
Dahle has been a working comedian for two decades, traveling from coast to coast and as far away as Japan to entertain the troops.
“Stand-up is like anything else. It takes a lot of time to get where you want to be,” he has said.
Dahle will be in Fairbanks for one show only on Saturday. On his previous visit in 2014, Dahle admitted to being fascinated by grizzly bears and that he hoped to see one. Since that was also a mid-winter show, his timing may be a little off.
‘Tisn’t the season for grizzly bears, but bear with him and Dahle will leave you laughing.
