Officials identify 3 victims Friday in fatal I-80 crash near Gibbon
Officials with the Nebraska State Patrol have identified the five victims Friday afternoon in a crash near Gibbon on Interstate 80.Troopers said the crash took place around 3 p.m. on eastbound I-80.Officials said traffic slowed down near a construction zone when a semitruck failed to slow down and struck traffic ahead.The collision caused a chain reaction that included seven vehicles.The first car was driven by Ryan Vanicek, 37, of Schuyler, and included his passenger Daniel Seelhoff, 50, of Lincoln. Seelhoff was pronounced dead at the scene. Vanicek was taken by medical helicopter to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, where he later died.The driver of another vehicle, Scott Gaylord, 54, of Lincoln, was also killed in the crash. Three other people were injured, but none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.The semitruck driver, Kenneth Kratt, 34, of Madera, California, suffered minor injuries.Officials said the investigation is ongoing. Charges related to the crash would be filed by the Buffalo County attorney, officials said.
