St Cormac's News

The ladies' team went 1-0 up early in play in their game against Shelbourne on Sunday the sixth. thanks to a great goal from new-signing, Anais Curran. Shelbourne fought back and went close to equalising near the break, smashing a shot off the upright. Our girls took control early in the second half, only to have Shelbourne fight back and come close to scoring on a few occasions. In extended injury time, Anais, who was the player-of-the-match, made a spectacular run from the middle of the field and scored another spectacular goal to copper-fasten the points for Cormac's. This leaves them on top of the league with three games to go.

The Men's 'A; team were in cup action and came out the wrong side of a seven-goal thriller. Away to Barntown in the Wexford Cup, goals from Mick Sweeney, Matthew Dunne and Brian 'Bro' O'Loughlin were not enough as the home side got the vital winning goal in extra-time.

The 'B' team were at home in a table-top clash against Wexford Bohs and a 1-3 result saw the visiting Bohs claim all the points. Ger Daly was the player-of-the-match while Niall Finn got his name on the scoresheet.

The previous day, the Youths' team were out in a cup game against North End, a table-topping team two divisions above them and suffered a heavy defeat. Ciarán Walsh was unlucky not to pull back at least two goals, the town keeper making some fine saves and a great shot bouncing off the underside of the crossbar in the second half. Despite the heavy deficit, the team never stopped trying and showed great grit right through till the end.

Celebration

Friday night, December 21, was a great night of celebration in Oulart Community Centre when Wexford senior hurling manager, Davy Fitzgerald presented championship medals to our all-conquering under-13 hurlers and runner-up medals to our under-17 players.

It was a nostalgic return trip to Oulart-The Ballagh for Davy, who as a 14-year-old goal-keeper had stayed in Sinnotts of Ballinerode during the Féile na nGael festival of hurling. The club is extremely grateful to Davy for taking time out from his busy schedule to attend the function. Thank you also to everyone who helped to make the night such a memorable success.
