ALVORD, Iowa -- A South Dakota woman was killed Friday evening when she was struck by a train in Lyon County.Â
According to a press release from the Lyon County Sheriff's Department, at around 7:27 p.m. Friday deputies were called to a train-versus-pedestrian accident in Alvord.Â
At the scene, deputies determined that the victim, 32-year-old Savannah Flynn of Marion, South Dakota, went into an area where two sets of tracks run parallel to each other. Evidence suggests that Flynn believed a southbound BNSF train was on the east set of tracks as she attempted to cross the westbound tracks, and was struck.Â
Flynn died at the scene. Alcohol is considered a possible factor in the incident, according to the press release, and the investigation is ongoing.Â
