ROANOKE, Va. (WSET) -- The Roanoke Rescue Mission is prepping for their Thanksgiving Feast and the Drumstick Dash.
Volunteers have been prepping all week. The feast will consist of 700 pounds of turkey, 150 pound of potatoes, 100 pounds of yams, 100 pounds of stuffing and that's just the beginning of it.
Tracy Altizer, Roanoke Rescue Missions Chief Development Officer, said they are planning on feeding 600 to 700 people.
"It's not just people staying here in our shelters and in our programs. These are people from our community coming in and it really is important to build community here in the Roanoke Valley," Altizer said.
Altizer said that's what this feast is all about.
And while this is a special event - they provide three meals a day at the Rescue Mission.
Altizer said last year they provided more than 245,000 meals.
The Drumstick Dash helps make that happen. The funds raised goes toward the Rescue Mission's food services budget.
Altizer said they are expecting more than 13,000 people to participate in the race.
The Drumstick Dash kicks off at 9 AM on Thursday and the feast is at noon.
