BROWN COUNTY, Texas - Two people suffered very critical injuries on Wednesday evening after their box truck hit two 18-wheelers near Brookesmith on Hwy 377, according to the Department of Public Safety.

DPS received the 911 call of the accident at 5:25 p.m. and shut down portions of hwy 377 for about an hour and a half. The incident happened less then half a mile north of the cut off to Brookesmith.

DPS doesn't know why the truck went into the opposite lane.

Both the passenger and driver are being treated for very critical injuries.

The passenger was transported at the scene by helicopter to San Angelo Shannon Medical Center.

The driver was taken by EMS to Brownwood Regional Medical Center, and flown by helicopter to another hospital, according to DPS.

DPS said the box truck's driver will be cited for driving on the wrong side of the road.

Both drivers of the 18-wheelers weren't hurt in the accident.

DPS hasn't identified the two occupants of the box truck yet. Highway troopers also don't know where the two were traveling to or from.
