ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Penn State senior Hector Garcia Boissier led four Penn State finalists with a runner-up finish on the first day of competition at the Navy Diving Invitational Thursday at Lejeune Hall.
 
The Nittany Lions finished day one with a top-10 finish by Kamryn Umbel in the women's 3-meter and four top-10 finishes for the men in the 1-meter. The men's and women's competitions feature 27 divers each from St. Bonaventure, George Washington, UMass, Virginia, and West Virginia.

On the men's side, all four Lions competing - Garcia Boissier, Jonah Cey, Jack Crow and Bryce Hoch – reached the finals.
 
Garcia Boissier led coming in second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 371.20. Boissier led the competition going into the finals with a score of 396.20, but was overtaken by Navy's Bradley Butcher, who improved upon a preliminary score of 383.35 by posting a finals score of 396.30. Cey continued his solid freshman year campaign with a fifth-place finish and a finals score of 317.90 after setting a personal best of 322.30 in prelims.
 
"The guys dove really well in preliminaries," said Penn State diving coach Jeff Nicola. "Hector was just a little off in the finals and finished in second, and it was a solid day for Jonah."
 
Senior Jack Crow placed seventh (310.10) and posted his top score in the prelims (322.85) with sophomore Bryce Hoch following him immediately in eighth (274.80) after punching his NCAA Zone ticket with a score of 302.10 in the prelims.
 
On the women's side, Umbel finished the first day with a ninth-place finish in the 3-meter dive with a score of 260.55. She narrowly missed the finals by four points.

The diving team will continue Friday at noon, where the women will dive in the 1-meter and the men in the 3-meter. The meet will conclude Saturday starting at 10 a.m. when the men and women with the platform. The entire Penn State swimming & diving team will be back in action on Nov. 29-Dec.1 when the team travels to Knoxville for the Tennessee Invitational.
