HURON, Ohio (AP) — The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a 15-year-old boy was killed in northern Ohio when he was hit by a train while riding his bicycle across the tracks.

The patrol said Keegan Rarden was hit by the westbound train traveling about 48 mph through the Lake Erie city of Huron at about 1:30 p.m. Friday. The train's lights, whistles, bell and horn were functional at the time.

The patrol said an eastbound train has just cleared the intersection when Rarden rode in front of the westbound train and was struck. The crossing gates were lowered and the warning lights were flashing at the time.

Officials are continuing to investigate.
