The Tanzanian government, through its wholly-owned TGF - Tanzania Government Flight (Dar es Salaam) unit, has placed a firm order with Bombardier Aerospace (BBA, Montréal Trudeau) for two A220-300s and one Dash 8-400. Once delivered, the aircraft will be leased to national carrier Air Tanzania (TC, Dar es Salaam).

“The domestic market in Tanzania, as well as the regional market, are becoming more competitive as both business and leisure travel are steadily increasing,” Dr. Leonard Chamuriho, Permanent Secretary at Tanzania’s Ministry of Works, Communications and Transport, said. “Therefore, it is vital to operate aircraft that offer superb passenger comfort and amenities.”

Earlier this year, Tanzanian Minister for Finance and Planning, Dr Phillip Mpango, had suggested government would be purchasing just one CS300. Additionally, an order for one B737NextGen has also been placed but has not yet been officially confirmed.

Air Tanzania is in the process of resuming scheduled passenger flights across the country using its two Q400s. The introduction of jet aircraft is expected to lead to a resumption in regional services including South Africa (last served in conjunction with the now dormant Interair South Africa (Johannesburg O.R. Tambo)) and even the Middle East.
