Petrides wrestling team downs Robert Wagner, 62-24, in first round of PSAL playoffs

The No. 2 ranked Petrides wrestling team rode seven pins to a 62-24 PSAL A division first-round playoff victory over No. 24 Robert Wagner on Tuesday.

Petrides will face the winner of Tuesday's Grand Street Campus-Martin Luther King Jr. matchup.

"It was a good opening-round performance for us," said Petrides coach David Olah as his team hopes to continue its dominant performance in the quarterfinals.

Joe DiForte, Jason Fallon, Jared Quick, Rob Welgoss, Nick Azzato, Kevin Velez and Kevin McColgan all recorded pins for the Panthers.

"We have some veteran and talented guys so we'll will be ready to make a push towards the championship round," said Olah.

The Panthers improved to 21-3 overall.
