A Massachusetts teacher was arrested Friday, accused of luring one of his students into his car, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her, the Brockton Enterprise reported.
Joaquim Andrade, 56, a teacher at Brockton High School, was charged Friday with rape with force, aggravated rape, two counts of indecent assault and battery of a child over 14 and enticement of a child under 16, the paper reported, citing the Plymouth County district attorney’s office.
Andrade is accused of luring a female student from his ninth-grade English as a Second Language science class using a fake Facebook profile that he used to engage the student in online conversations about soccer. Andrade began teaching at the school in 1993.
Brockton police conducted an investigation that lasted nearly three weeks, then Andrade was arrested, and arraigned Friday in Brockton District Court before Judge John Canavan.
Andrade, who hails from Cape Verde in West Africa, pleaded not guilty, and was ordered held on $20,000 cash bail, the paper reported.
One of Andrade’s lawyers told the Boston Globe that by next week “it will be clear Mr. Andrade has done absolutely nothing wrong.”
Andrade has been on administrative leave since the allegations surfaced last month.
