VersaEmerge

VersaEmerge, from Port St. Lucie, Fla., is a band everyone should know. After the release of three moderately successful EPs, and an applauded appearance at the UK's Give It A Name festival, the members of VersaEmerge have proven themselves worthy of all the fans they have received.

I caught up with VersaEmerge members Devin Ingelido and Jerry Pierce at the recent Bamboozle Festival -- and talked about everything from touring in Europe to playing with The BackStreet Boys.

How does it feel to be playing Bamboozle, then playing Warped in a couple of months?
Devin: It's pretty awesome! It's definitely a privilege to be playing with these amazing bands, especially after getting back from Europe, it's pretty sick!
Jerry: It's a lot of fun. I feel like I wanna watch the show sometimes, instead of play it.

How was it to perform at the Give It A Name festival in '09?
Devin: It was absolutely incredible! We had an amazing line up this year, UnderOath, Taking Back Sunday, Thursday -- all bands that we've grown up with, sang to, and loved. Being able to play to 3,000 to 5,000 kids was awesome!
Jerry: It was definitely, outlandishly British. That's all I have to say. Nah, it was awesome! (laughs)

What are some bands that you hope to check out here?
Devin: Um, I know that I kinda prowled today. I mean, I'm into a lot of metal stuff, so I saw MyChildren MyBride, and I think Parkway Drive is playing later. We have to catch uh.. Did Cartel play?
Jerry: Uh, maybe? I don't know!
Devin: I think I saw them... Forever the Sickest Kids, I checked them out, it was all awesome.
Jerry: Ace Enders is playing right now, and my soul is dying inside of me because I'm not watching it.
Devin: We just got off of tour with them. He's amazing.
Jerry: They're so good!

I'll hurry it up so you can go and get to see them!
Jerry: (laughs) No no no! Take your time!

Do you have any favorite songs to play live?
Jerry: I think I would say "Whisperer" ... "Past Praying For" is pretty fun to play too. I always do this guitar flip that always goes terribly wrong, and that's always a blast!

Could you name a certain band as the best touring partner?
Devin: It would be the BackStreet Boys.
Jerry: The BackStreet Boys, or Eye Alaska, or The Arrivals.

What would your dream tour consist of? Certain bands, or certain venues?
Jerry: The line-up of my dream tour would be Emory, Fiona Apple, us of course, and Mozart. That'd be sweet.
Devin: I would have to agree with his four, other than that, I would like to add the band Rush.
Jerry: Yes!!! Geddy Lee, represent!

Anything you would like to add?
Jerry: Buy our EP!
Devin: The one thing that you're not supposed to say!
Jerry: And that's why I said it!
Devin: Keep note of that. (laughs) No, uh, just come check us out, we're doing a lot of things this year, I mean, as you can see, we're at Bamboozle, we'll be on all of Warped Tour this year, we've got a fall tour planned, and expect a full-length by the beginning of next year.
