HYDERABAD: Police on Monday arrested 52 Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists as they attempted to take out Rath Yatra to Basara, violating prohibitory orders issued by police Commissioner.
VHP and Bajrang Dal had sought permission to take out state-wide rally — Basara Rath Yatra — from March 18-31to celebrate Ram Navami. Nirmal police had denied permission to take out rally from Basara and Hyderabad police had also denied permission to take out rally from VHP’s Koti office.
“Permission was denied in view of public harmony and to maintain law and order. Therefore, we appeal to the public not to participate in the yatra,” a release issued by police commissioner’s office read.
All the 52 activists arrested by the police were booked under Section 151of the CrPC.
