ALBANY – The beleaguered New York City Housing Authority is getting $100 million from the state — and an audit.

The new state budget authorizes the funding but also requires City Controller Scott Stringer to “immediately commence an audit of the (NYCHA) management and contracting process for repairs and maintenance and make recommendations on how to improve the process.”

Sources say Gov. Cuomo pushed for the requirement after reading a Daily News story last month in which NYCHA admitted that for years the authority purchased supplies that were never used while neglecting needed repairs.

Assemblyman Brian Kavanagh (D-Manhattan) said, “We’re concerned about making sure the money gets spent responsibly, but we also want to make sure that the extra oversight doesn’t delay the needed repairs.”

A Stringer spokesman had no comment.
