(WWLP) – The only local state senate race that is contested in the general election is in the Worcester, Hampden, Hampshire, and Middlesex District.
Spencer Democrat Anne Gobi is running for her third two-year term in the Senate. She faces a challenge this year from Steven Hall, an inventor and nursing home consultant from Sturbridge.
As of 11:40 p.m. Tuesday night, Gobi is leading the race with 47 percent reporting.

Jo Comerford, a Democrat from Northampton, was elected as the first woman to serve in the Massachusetts State Senate. She won her party’s primary with a write-in campaign in the Hampshire, Franklin, and Worcester Senate District, replacing former Senate President Stanley Rosenberg, who resigned from office.
The district is one of the state’s largest geographically, straddling the line between western and central Massachusetts, including some 28 communities from the Connecticut state line to the New Hampshire state line. Most of the district is in western Worcester County, but it also includes the towns of Palmer, Monson, Brimfield, Wales, and Holland in Hampden County, the town of Ware in Hampshire County, and the town of Ashby in Middlesex County.
