EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has bought North American rights and select international territories to November Criminals, the Sacha Gervasi-directed drama that will star Chloe Grace Moretz and The Fault In Our Stars‘ Ansel Elgort. Locke’s Steven Knight wrote the script from the 2011 novel by Sam Munson.
Lotus Entertainment’s Ara Keshishian along with SPWA’s Executive Vice President Joe Matukewicz will oversee production. Beth O’Neil is producing alongside Erika Olde of Black Bicycle Entertainment, and Lotus. Black Bicycle Entertainment is also co-financing the film with Lotus, which is handling remaining international sales.
Two teens venture into the seedy underbelly of Washington, D.C. to investigate a friend’s murder while falling in love for the first time. Begin Again‘s Catherine Keener also stars. Production begins March 16th. CAA and WME Global brokered the deal with Bill Johnson for Lotus Entertainment and SPWA’s Michael Helfand, Joe Matukewicz and Jon Freedberg.
Deal comes as both SPWA and Lotus were busy at Sundance. SPWA acquired Dope alongside Open Road and also premiered The Bronze and The D Train in competition at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and watched both sell in strong deals. Lotus Entertainment premiered the Craig Zobel-directed Z For Zachariah with Chiwetel Ejiofor, Chris Pine, and Margot Robbie in Sundance. Lionsgate/Roadside Attractions acquired U.S. rights.
