Greensky Bluegrass to play Beak & Skiff Apple Orchard

LAFAYETTE, N.Y. -- Jamgrass outfit Greensky Bluegrass will return to Central New York this summer, this time to Beak & Skiff Apple Orchards.

The Kalamazoo, Michigan band will perform Friday, Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m. The opener has not yet been announced.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 16, at 10 a.m. on CCTix.com, at the Sound Garden in Armory Square and at Beak & Skiff.

Band members Anders Beck (dobro), Michael Arlen Bont (banjo), Dave Bruzza (guitar), Mike Devol (upright bass) and Paul Hoffman (mandolin) clearly like the area, or simply like working with the promoter Creative Concerts. They recently performed at the Westcott Theater in Syracuse on Jan. 25, where they often return.

Greensky is an unstoppable force on tour, playing roughly 175 shows per year.

Rolling Stone describes the band's sound as "pure jamgrass, the amalgamation of wide-reaching experimentation and traditional instrumentation," thanks to their smooth fusion with indie rock and pop.

Beak & Skiff ramped up its summer concert series in the last year, bringing in several national acts to the orchard. Coming up next are:

  • The Wood Brothers
  • Yonder Mountain String Band
  • The O'Connor Band
  • The David Grisman Sextet on Aug. 20.
  • Martin Sexton Trio
