Community Art Show Open House set for Thursday

The CACE Gallery of Fine Art will hold a Community Art Show Open House from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at 300 Main St. in Fort Morgan.

Local artists display their work, just in time to find the perfect gift. Join in for wine, cheese and good company. Artwork will be on display through Dec. 20.

SnowMazing Winter Maze open now through Dec. 15

The SnowMazing Winter Maze is set up on the 100 block of East Beaver Avenue in Fort Morgan. It is expected to be open from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday through Dec. 15.

Gingerbread Houses at Maker Monthly set for Thursday

The Maker Monthly program will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Fort Morgan Library & Museum.

This month’s program is making Ginger Bread Houses. There is a limit of 15 seats, so registration is required to 970-542-4014.

Brush High School Winter Concert set for Thursday

The Brush High School Winter Concert, “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in the Brush High School Auditorium.

The Tri-M Music Honor Society will be collecting non-perishable food items for local food banks. Concert-goers are asked to bring an item to donate.

Brush Bank of Colorado Holiday Open House set for Friday

Bank of Colorado in Brush will hold a Holiday Open House from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at 301 Clayton St.

There will be an entire day of holiday entertainment and fun in celebration of the season for Bank of Colorado customers and friends.

The Friends of the Library at East Morgan County Library will hold a Book Sale from 3 to 7 p.m. at the library in Brush.

There will be a wide variety of like-new and used hardcover and paperback books, children’s books, DVD’s, CD’s and more. All the money raised from the sale goes back into the library for supplies and whatever is needed.

Christmas music, chili at Brush Museum Sack Lunch on Friday

The Dec. 7 Brush Museum Sack Lunch Program will take place at the Brush Museum, beginning at 5 p.m.

A free Chili Supper will be available, furnished by the Brush Museum Board of Directors. A donation is requested, but not required. The meal will be followed by a short business meeting of all museum members in attendance. This is an opportunity to nominate new members to the board.

Then, O.J. Metzgar’s group, “Rigor Mortis and the Deadbeats,” will lead in Christmas Music. Every year, this proves to be a fun, energizing evening. Bring the family out and have a really good time.

The Brush Community Christmas celebration continues Friday, Dec. 7, with the Community Night events in downtown Brush.

Starting at 5:30 p.m., there will be hay rides, hot chocolate, marshmallow roast, petting zoo, sidewalk games, Santa Clause at Old Tyme Country Store. This year’s Brush Community Christmas theme is Old McDonald.

Central School Fundraiser Raffle Drawing set for Friday

The Brush Chamber Foundation will hold the drawing in the Central School Fundraiser Raffle at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in front of the Brush Area Chamber of Commerce office in downtown Brush.

First prize is a one-week condo rental in Puerto Vallarta; second and third prizes are Broncos versus LA Charger tickets; fourth prize is $100 in Chamber Bucks. Tickets are $25 each. You do not have to be present to win. Only 500 tickets are being sold.

The Tree Lighting at East Morgan County Library in Brush will happen at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7.

This event is part of the Brush Community Christmas celebration. This year’s theme is Old McDonald.

Lighthouse Christian School Christmas Play set for Friday

Lighthouse Christian School will offer its Christmas Play, “The Royal Gift,” at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Life Fellowship, 17723 Morgan County Road 20, in Fort Morgan.

“By Royal Edict, you are hereby summoned to attend the Christmas festivities at the Castle of Life Fellowship, 17723 County Road Twenty at thirty minutes past six in the evening,” the school’s invitation to the public stated. “Every prince/princess, duke/duchess, earl, baron/baronet, noble, knight, queen mother, tradesman, falconer, musketeer, commoner, and every citizen in the land shall come to understand The True Story of the Holy Christ-child Birth.”

High Plains Artists of Colorado exhibit opens Saturday

A new special exhibit at Fort Morgan Museum that opens Saturday, Dec. 8, will feature art by the High Plains Artist of Colorado.

This exhibit celebrates the American West with a focus on Morgan County, Colorado. The show is a mixture of modern scenes and historic recreations. The High Plains Artists of Colorado are a group of Morgan County artists that formed to document Northeast Colorado and the surrounding region. The artists of this group strive to encourage and promote one another.

This exhibit will be set up in the museum’s Lower Gallery and will be free for the public to view during regular museum hours. An opening program will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8.

Brush High School Winter Craft Fair set for Saturday

The Brush High School Winter Craft Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at BHS in the auxiliary gym.

There will be local vendors selling handmade crafts, jewelry, baked goods and much more.

Scouting for Food set for Saturday

Morgan County Boy Scout Troops will be collecting food Saturday, Dec. 8, in Morgan County for local food pantries as part of the Scouting for Food civic service project.

Scouting for Food has grown into the boy Scouts of America’s largest single-day community food drive. Over the years, over 41 million pounds of food has been donated. This year, Boys Scouts will be collecting food between 10 a.m. and noon Saturday, Dec. 8, for Rising Up’s Client Choice Pantry.

Christmas Capital of the Plains events continue Saturday

Fort Morgan is now the Christmas Capital of the Plains on Saturdays with events, activities and shopping specials in downtown.

On Saturday, Dec. 8, the Cover Theatre will host a free showing of the movie “Hotel Transylvania 3” at 10 a.m. The SnowMazing Winter Maze is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the 100 block of East Beaver Avenue.

The Rotary Club Chili/Soup Cook-Off happens from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. People can buy a ticket for $5 and sample and vote on all the chili and soup offerings. It is free to enter a chili or soup dish.

The Korf Santa House will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. It is located in the southwest corner of Fort Morgan City Park. Free carriage rides will be available from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday in downtown Fort Morgan.

Beauty and Bliss Open House set for Saturday

Beauty and Bliss will hold an Open House from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at 19562 E. Eighth Ave., Fort Morgan.

Come see the location and meet the staff at the hair, nails, skin, tanning salon. There will be specials, give-aways, prize drawings, treats.

Live reindeer visit at Murdoch’s set for Sunday

Experience a little Christmas magic when live reindeer visit Murdoch’s in Fort Morgan again this year.

The chance to see the live reindeer at the store is from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at Murdoch’s Ranch & Home Supply, 1207 W. Platte Ave., in Fort Morgan. While there, kids can write a letter to Santa and pick up some magic reindeer snacks and parents can take pictures near the reindeer.

Murdoch’s loves dogs but for the safety of all customers, the store asked that dogs be kept on a leash and at least 10 feet away from reindeer at all times. Also, for the safety of customers, not all Murdoch’s stores will allow petting of the reindeer.

Master Chorale’s “27th Noel Concert” set for Sunday

The Master Chorale, under the direction of Don Johnson, with accompanist Mary L. Smith, will present its 27th Noel Concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, in the Dorothy Corsberg Theater at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling.

In conjunction with the NJC Foundation, the Master Chorale will award its fifth $250 tuition scholarship to a deserving music student for the Spring semester.

Platte Valley Band Christmas concert set for Sunday

The Platte Valley Band will offer its Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at Fort Morgan Middle School, 605 Education Ave., Fort Morgan.

The band will play a selection of Christmas and seasonal music and more. The concert also will feature vocalist Danielle Booker’s rendition of “White Christmas.” A new vocal group, The Harmoniks, will sing Christmas favorites during the concert intermission, where the band will be serving Christmas goodies and drinks.

Next free Legal Clinic set for Monday

The next monthly Free Legal Clinic is set for 2 to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at Fort Morgan Public Library. It is open to parties with no attorney.

Volunteer attorneys, by computer, will answer questions, help fill out forms and explain the process and procedure for all areas of civil litigation, including family law, property law, probate law, collections, appeals, landlord-tenant law, small claims, veteran’s issues and civil protection orders. Brown Bag Lunch on arrowheads set for Tuesday

Tom Westfall will be the featured speaker at the Tuesday, Dec. 11, Brown Bag Lunch at Fort Morgan Library & Museum.

Westfall is an authority on arrowheads and points, and he specializes in point reproductions that are among the finest made in the United States. His talk will begin at noon in the the Howard Rollin Memorial Community Room. The monthly Brown Bag Lunch is free and open to the public. People are welcome to bring a lunch to eat while listening to the speaker.

‘Fall Into Winter’ author visit from Helen Thorpe set for Tuesday

Fort Morgan Public Library and the Fort Morgan Heritage Foundation are sponsoring the “Fall into Winter” Colorado Author Series, which allows patrons to meet and hear from some of Colorado’s most popular and current authors.

Another author visit is from Helen Thorpe at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the library. She is a British-born author and freelance writer. After graduating from Princeton University. Thorpe worked as an intern for the Atlantic Monthly. She was also a staff writer for The New York Observer and New Yorker Magazine. For five years, Helen also lived in Austin and was a writer for Texas Monthly. Her stories have been featured in George, New York, Westword, The New York Times Magazine, 5280, The New Yorker, Slate and Harper’s Bazaar.

Her first book, “Just Like Us,” won the Colorado Book Award and was named one of the best books published that year by the Washington Post. Her second book, “Soldier Girls,” was named the No. 1 nonfiction book of the year by Time Magazine. Her third book, “The Newcomers,” was named as a finalist for the J. Anthony Lukas Work In Progress Award.

Kids’ Fun Time set for Wednesday

Kids’ Fun Time on Wednesday, Dec. 12, starts at 3:30 p.m. at East Morgan County Library in Brush. Kids’ Fun Time is free and aimed at kids in kindergarten through fifth grade.

Teen Creative Writing Club to meet Wednesday

Teens have the opportunity to explore all types of writing styles and themes in a relaxed environment at the Fort Morgan Library and Museum Community Room during monthly meetings of the Teen Creative Writing Club.

Join other teen writers on the second Wednesday of every month. The Teen Creative Writing Club is open to teens between the ages of 13 and 18. Coffee with a Cop session set for Dec. 13

A session of Fort Morgan Police Department’s “Coffee With a Cop” program is set for 8 to 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at Acapulco Bay restaurant in Fort Morgan.

One of the keys to Coffee With a Cop is that it removes the barriers that routinely exist between police officers and community members, allowing for the kind of relaxed, one-on-one interactions that are the necessary foundation of partnerships. There is no agenda for the Coffee With a Cop sessions, just an opportunity for citizens to visit with law enforcement officers, ask questions and voice opinions.

On Friday, Dec. 14, there will be a couple special visitors to East Morgan County Library, 500 Clayton St., in Brush.

Santa Ed and Reggie the Reindeer will be at the library from 10 to 11 a.m. that day during the usual Friday Story Time hour. Join us for pictures with a real live reindeer. If you miss the chance for a Santa chat, he and Mrs. Claus will be ready to hear your lists.

Retirement Party for Bob Wooldridge set for Dec. 14

After 28 years of being the Morgan County assessor, Robert “Bob” Wooldridge has decided to retire.

The Assessor’s Office will be having a Retirement Party for Bob from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, in the Assembly Room in the basement at the Morgan County Administration Building, 231 Ensign St, in Fort Morgan. Come and wish him goodbye and good luck in his next adventure of life.

Register by Dec. 14 for Santa’s Workshop 4-H program

The Morgan County Extension Office will set up a Santa’s Workshop on Friday, Dec. 21. However, registration for this program is required by Friday, Dec. 14.

This will be a great opportunity for youth in the community to make low-cost items that can be given as gifts. Santa’s Workshop will include make-and-take crafts, easy to make foods that be given as gifts, games, and all sorts of fun. The workshop is open to youth ages 8 to 18.

The workshop will be set-up in the 4-H Building of the Morgan County Fairgrounds in Brush. There will be two sessions offered. The first session will be from 9 to 11 a.m. The second session will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Parents are welcome to stay, but not required. The cost is $5 for those enrolled in 4-H in Morgan County and $10 for anyone that is not. People can pay at the event. To register, call the Morgan County Extension Office at 970-542-3540. ‘Who Will Mind the Light’ Christmas drama set for Dec. 14, 15

The Living Word Drama Ministry will present a Christmas drama, “Who Will Mind the Light,” at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, and 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Immanuel Evangelical Church, 318 W. Seventh Ave., in Fort Morgan.

“Who Will Mind the Light” is an original Christmas drama written by Terri Dill. The original music score is by Brandon Dill. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children 10 and under.

Morgan County Comedy Night set for Dec. 14

2 for the Road Entertainment will hold its second show of the 2018-19 comedy season at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at the Fort Morgan Elks Lodge.

This Morgan County Comedy Night will feature two comedians, including headliner Brent Gill and Geoff Tice. Tickets are $10 in advance at All About U in Brush or at the Flower Petaler in Fort Morgan. They cost $12 at the door the night of the show.

Fort Morgan Museum’s Craft & Hobby Show Case set for Dec. 15

A benefit dinner and live auction for Ben Mettlen will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Mark Arndt Events Center at the Morgan County Fairgrounds in Brush.

A Night in Bethlehem set for Dec. 22

A Night in Bethlehem will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush.

At A Night in Bethlehem, kids, families, and people of all ages will explore the city at the time of Jesus’ birth. Visit trade shops, live animals, and an interactive nativity. Through hands-on experiences, discover ancient Bethlehem – and learn about the baby born there a long time ago. It takes about an hour for the full experience. Gates close at 4 p.m.

Next Food Bank of the Rockies mobile pantry truck visit is Dec. 26

The Food Bank of the Rockies mobile pantry truck will make its next monthly visit to Morgan County on Wednesday, Dec. 26.

The pantry truck stops at the Morgan County Fairgrounds in Brush from 10 a.m. to noon, and food assistance is provided for those seeking it. Provide your own bags or boxes. Info: Lisa Northrup at 970-768-4262.
