David Warner and Steve Smith hogged the spotlight back in 2018 when they were involved in the ball-tampering scandal during Cape Town Test against South Africa. They were handed with a one-year ban by Cricket Australia for the same. However, the duo marked a strong comeback in international cricket during the mega-event in England last year and worked hard to rebuild their reputation that was dented severely.

A documentary named “The Test” is slated to be released on Thursday is interestingly made around a story on how these two players rebuild their reputation following the ball-tampering scandal. Moreover, Smith once had also thought that he will never play again in international cricket.

‘The Test’ describes Smith’s return

In that documentary, the directors have shown a detailed story and things that turned out to be the main components for their return ahead of the World Cup. When Steve Smith, the former Aussie skipper, joined the team, he told his team-mates about the fact that he was thinking to walk away from the game forever during his year-long suspension.

Moreover, David Warner also echoed in the same voice at times. But, he had faith in himself due to which he managed a strong arrival into the team. “From a personal point of view it was pretty tough and I’ve had times where I probably didn’t want to come back and play to be perfectly honest,” Steve Smith said as quoted by Fox Cricket.

Warner also added the fact that he was accepted by his teammates with their both arms opened. When he returned into the dressing room after a year, it never looked like he had ever left his team. All the players made him feel that he was never away from the national side. During the Ashes, there was a discussion going on in the meeting when Smith said that he will get the team to 300 when they were struggling in the match.

“In the last 12 months, I have had a lot of reflecting to do. With cricket and what happened in the past and getting better as a team person as well. From looking the outside in you can see the whole team as we have grown a lot. How we have been accepted in the past 24 hours. I don’t really feel like I’ve left. There was no unease or anything like that. It was back like I went out of the team yesterday and came back today,” Warner said.
