Health Minister Hala Zayed said an Egyptian medical team was dispatched to Chad early Tuesday within the framework of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's initiative to provide Hepatitis C treatment for one million Africans.

Egypt - as the chair of the African Union - plans to open centers for Hepatitis C treatment in several African states in order to support them and help them benefit from Egypt's 100 million health initiative for treatment and early detection of Hepatitis C and non-communicable diseases.

The health ministry spokesman, Khaled Megahed, said the team will open a hepatitis virus treatment unit in the Chadian capital.

He added that the Egyptian team will train Chadian cadres on means of detecting and treating hepatitis viruses.

He noted that another Egyptian medical team opened a similar unit in Juba last month.
