James Lockhart commits to Texas A&M: Aggies land 4-star DE

Texas A&M continues their march toward the top recruiting class in the nation where they hope to unseat Alabama at the top spot and took a big step toward that with the commitment of four-star defensive end James Lockhart (Ennis, Texas. Ennis) who announced from his high school on Friday afternoon.

The 6-2, 251-pounder is the nation’s No. 106 overall recruit regardless of position, No. 6 strong-side defensive end and the No. 11 recruit in the state of Texas, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He was down to the Crimson Tide and Aggies when he announced his decision today.

Texas A&M finished with the worst defense in the SEC last season, but Lockhart committed in part because he wants to help turn that unit around.

"“I chose Texas A&M because they play in the SEC,” Lockhart told 247Sports.com Thursday afternoon. “I feel like on the defensive side they struggled last year and I feel like I can make a good impact on it.”“I think Texas A&M is going to be really, really great in the coming years,” Lockhart said. “I met coach Sumlin a couple of times and I feel like what he’s doing will equal a really good record soon.”"

Lockhart recorded 122 tackles last season as a junior with 17.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, 21 quarterback hurries and forced three fumbles. He could look like a strong bookend to Myles Garrett on the defensive line in a couple years on a vastly improved Aggie defense.

With the commitment of Lockhart, Texas A&M now has 19 commitments in the 2015 class and boasts the nation’s No. 2 class, trailing only Alabama in the 247Sports team rankings.
