Easton police say a man stole a woman’s cellphone and more than $940 in cash from a bank account she had just closed.

Samad McKoy, 34, was charged Wednesday with robbery and theft in the Aug. 22 incident, police say. McKoy is in Northampton County Jail under $75,000 bail.

According to court records:

The victim, Kimberly Hart, told police she was walking in the 600 block of Church Street when a man asked to see her cellphone. Hart told police she had recently closed a bank account and had cash in her purse.

The man grabbed her cellphone and cash before fleeing, Hart said.

Several days later, Hart told police that she heard the man who may have robbed her went by the street name of “D.” She also gave police a physical description of the robber.

Easton authorities say McKoy goes by the nickname “D-Nice” and detectives said they heard he was “robbing people.”

Police showed Hart a photo lineup and she identified McKoy as the man who robbed her.

McKoy was in Northampton County Court several days before his robbery arrest testifying about a statement he made to authorities investigating a Lower Mount Bethel homicide case. McKoy told state police that while serving time in jail with Dennis Long, charged with killing his stepson during a drunken brawl, Long allegedly made statements about the crime.
