Uncle of girl, 11, stabbed to death at gran’s house in court on murder charge
THE uncle of an 11-year-old girl who died after being stabbed at her gran’s home has appeared in court charged with her murder.
Delroy Forrester, 51, of Wolverhampton was arrested after Jasmine Forrester was found with stab wounds and a serious head injury on Friday.
Neighbours told how they had seen the youngsters' gran Victoria Forrester, 79, wearing just her dressing gown knocking on doors and begging for help.
Jasmine died in hospital with her family by her side. Forrester, who lived a mile away from the scene, was arrested at the semi-detached property and charged with murder.
Unemployed Forrester appeared before Walsall JPs wearing a white T-shirt and grey joggging bottoms.
Family members sobbed and comforted each other in the dock throughout the three-minute hearing, where he spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address.
As he entered Walsall Magistrates' Court he said to relatives: “I didn’t do it.”
The case was adjourned and Forrester will appear at Wolverhampton crown court for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
Jasmine's father Simeon Forrester said: "This is a hugely tragic time for our family and the loss we feel is unexplainable. We are utterly devastated."
He also left a floral tribute at the semi-detached house which said: "My shining star.
"Things will never be the same, my heart is broken. I will never forget you Jasmine love, Dad. I will always love you!"
Detective Inspector Ian Wilkins, of West Midlands Police, said: "We are continuing to support Jasmine's family at this truly tragic time.
"The family have asked for privacy and we really hope everyone can respect that wish."
