Lalah Hathaway’s Live has just been named the winner of the Grammy for Best R&B Album .
The simply-titled Lalah Hathaway Live, her first live effort, was a relative success when she released it in late October of 2015, just barely making it into the eligibility period for the Grammys. The album peaked at No. 33, just one spot behind her previous peak.
This year, longtime R&B favorite is nominated for another two Grammys: Best R&B Album and Best Traditional R&B Performance, which merits its own category. She has previously won three trophies in three consecutive years. She collected her first prize in 2013 for Best R&B Performance for the song “Something,” which was a joint project with fellow artist Snarky Puppy. The next year, she took home Best Traditional R&B Performance with the Robert Glasper Experiment for the track “Jesus Children,” while in 2015 she won her second Grammy in the Traditional R&B Performance category for her own single, “Little Ghetto Boy.”
Lalah Hathaway’s Live was selected by Grammy voters over fellow nominees Terrace Martin’s Velvet Portraits, Mint Condition’s Healing Season, Mya’s Smoove Jones and BJ The Chicago Kid’s In My Mind.
