UPDATE; (July 25th, 2018) - A man is charged with kidnapping and rape in connection with what St. Paul Police described as a "horrific" crime that took place Monday.

According to the criminal complaint, police responded to a home on Jessamine Lane in St. Paul, after a male 911 caller said that his mother's boyfriend may have killed her.

When officers arrived they found a woman deceased on a bed. She had foam and mucus coming from her nose and a straw in her nose, according to the complaint. She has been identified by family as Shana Hollins.

Officers also found a 16-year-old girl at the residence who was known to the victim and said that she was visiting from out of state. The criminal complaint states that she was "crying and shaking." She told police that early in the morning, she was on the couch with Hollins' boyfriend, identified as 33-year-old Ivan Dan Walker, and Hollins' two sons.

The girl told police that Walker started choking her, dragged her to the basement and raped her twice. According to the complaint, Walker told the girl that he had already killed Hollins, and that he might have to kill her, too.

The complaint states that the teen convinced Walker to let her use the bathroom upstairs, where she saw Hollins on the bed. She told police that Walker snorted some cocaine with a straw and then placed the straw next to Hollins, saying he was going to make the death look like an overdose. The girl then told police that's when Walker sexually assaulted her a third time.

The girl convinced Walker to leave and had Hollins' son call police, according to the complaint. A sexual assault examination documented injuries in line with her account to authorities.

At about noon on Monday, police arrested Walker in downtown St. Paul. He denied being at the residence at that time, but police say the witness he cited did not confirm his alibi.

According to the complaint, a physical examination documented an injury on Walker's hand that aligned with the victim's account of biting him.

Walker had a warrant out for a parole violation associated with a robbery conviction. He now faces felony charges of kidnapping and first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The murder investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed yet. The medical examiner's office has not yet determined Hollins' cause of death.

ORIGINAL STORY: Authorities are investigating a suspicious death and a sexual assault near the city's east side.

Members of the St. Paul Police Department's homicide unit responded to the 1500 block of East Jessamine Lane around 7 a.m. Monday.

When officers arrived they found an adult female who appeared deceased. When medics arrived, they pronounced her dead.

While officers were at the residence they were told a teen girl had been sexually assaulted in the home.

Steve Linders of the St. Paul Police Department called the case "horrific."

"One of the most disturbing and heartbreaking scenes we’ve seen in a while," he said.

Linders said homicide investigators processed the scene and interviewed potential witnesses. They were able to identify a suspect who was known to both victims.

That suspect, a 33-year-old man from East St. Louis, Illinois, was located in downtown St. Paul around noon and arrested without incident, Linders said.

"I can tell you that the investigators and our officers on scene were personally affected by this, so there was a sigh of relief when they found him," Linders said.

The suspect is being held in the Ramsey County Jail on pending charges of kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct. Those charges are both related to the assault of the juvenile, Linders said.

Linders said the adult woman who died will be identified once family has been notified.

The Medical Examiner's Office has completed an autopsy, but Linders said more tests need to be done before they can determine the cause of death. He did say that the case is being investigated as a homicide.

There were other people at the home before the death was reported and they are being interviewed by police.
