KUCHING: Attacks against Malaysian billionaire Robert Kuok have upset many among the Chinese community, said Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang.

Lo was referring to Minister of Tourism and Culture Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz’s allegations that Kuok had funded the Democratic Action Party to topple the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

“The politician or minister’s accusation against Kuok is baseless and Chinese should stay united to defend the truth,” Lo said during the Foo Clan Association Kuching Sarawak’s Chinese New Year dinner on Thursday.

“Kuok is highly respected. He has contributed much to Malaysian society. We denounce the act of false accusation.”

Lo urged the people to continue supporting BN during the next parliamentary election.

Among those present at the dinner were former Deputy Works Minister Datuk Yong Khoon Seng, Foo Clan Association Kuching Sarawak president Kapitan Hu Hee Juen, and Federation of Chinese Associations for Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Serian Divisions president Datuk Richard Wee.

Kuok, who is based in Hong Kong, has denied the accusation.
