Body Of Man Who Jumped Off Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge Recovered

A 911 call reporting a suspicious vehicle on the bridge was received early Monday morning.

RHINEBECK, NY— The body of a 76-year-old Rhinebeck man was recovered from the Hudson River Tuesday. The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office responded around 3:20 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30 to the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge for a 911 call that reported a suspicious vehicle on the span of the bridge.

Deputies found the vehicle unattended and said that there were indications the operator of the vehicle had jumped off the bridge into the Hudson River.

Both Dutchess and Ulster sheriff's offices deployed patrol boats to search for the man.

The U.S. Coast Guard Sector New York was contacted and provided marine patrol deputies with data on recommended search areas based on changing environmental conditions.

Around 12:25 p.m., Dutchess County marine patrol deputies located the man's body in the river.

His remains were turned over to the Dutchess County Medical Examiner's Office for identification and an autopsy.

The U.S. Coast Guard, New York State Bridge Authority, Ulster County Sheriff's Office and Dutchess County Medical Examiner's Office all assisted with this investigation.
