Savannah Morning News

Savannah-Chatham police and Georgia State Patrol worked together to arrest two men for a carjacking last week.

The two suspects, who were armed with guns, approached the occupants of the vehicle at the intersection of West 40th and Jefferson streets and demanded they get out around 11:35 p.m. Jan. 19, police spokeswoman Bianca Johnson said.

A Georgia State Patrol trooper stopped the suspected vehicle on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at about 12:45 a.m. The vehicle fled, and soon after, crashed into a building in the 1800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Through a joint effort between troopers and metro officers, the two suspects, Darrell Gordon Jr., 24, and Jamal Stokes, 17, were taken into custody. A BB gun was located outside of the vehicle.

The suspects were charged with hijacking a motor vehicle and various traffic offenses.
