Coroner IDs Man Killed In I-290 Crash

The 60-year-old Plainfield man killed in the Wednesday night crash has been identified as Edwin R. Mijares.

COOK COUNTY, IL — Authorities have identified the 60-year-old Plainfield man killed Wednesday night in a four-vehicle crash d in Schaumburg as Edwin R. Mijares, authorities said. The crash occurred at 7:24 p.m. when a white Lexus IS300 headed west on I-290 went into a the left ditch, causing the vehicle to go airborne over the guardrail and into the eastbound lanes of traffic, according to a news release from the Illinois State Police.

The car then collided with three eastbound vehicles, including a silver Chevrolet Aveo. Mijares was driving the Aveo and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the news release.

The Lexus also collided with a Hyundai Santa Fe and a Hyundai Sonata, according to authorities. The driver of the Lexus, a 40-year-old Palatine man, and Santa Fe, a 58-year-old Bolingbrook woman, were taken to area hospitals for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash, authorities said. The driver of the Sonata, a 39-year-old Mundelein man, was not injured.

The collision closed down all lanes of traffic on eastbound Interstate 290 at Higgins Road. The left three lanes of westbound traffic were also closed.
