These schools in Cudahy, St. Francis, South Milwaukee are running free meal programs this summer

Kids and teens this summer can grab free, nutritious lunches at sites in the St. Francis, South Milwaukee and Cudahy school districts.

Cudahy will also provide free breakfasts.

Those who are 18 years old and under can get entrees, milk, veggies and fruit at the meals sites. The programs fill a void created when free and reduced priced school lunches are unavailable during summer break, school officials said.

Meals are available to all youth who live in the (school) district for the summer. However, they do not have to attend the district where a meal site is located and there are no income or registration requirements, according to federal guidelines.

No one 18 and younger is refused a free meal, officials said.

The Summer Food Service Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. 

Free meals are unavailable in neighboring school districts of Franklin and Oak Creek.

St Francis

The program will run in St. Francis 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 June 12 to July 20 at Deer Creek Elementary, 3680 Kinnickinnic Ave. Meals will not be served on July 4.

This is the fourth year St. Francis is in the program. It served about 4,200 meals over 29 days last summer, according to Jonathan Mitchell, director of finance and operations.

Summer school and summer cool participants also can get free lunches, according to a district flier.

South Milwaukee

In South Milwaukee, lunches will be served 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 18 to Aug. 3 at South Milwaukee High School. meals will no be served July 4. Adults can have a lunch for $3.50.

Last summer, the district served about 400 meals a day and has participated in the program for many years, a school spokesman said.

Cudahy

In Cudahy, breakfasts will be offered 7:45 to 8:15 a.m. June 12 to July 13 at Cudahy High School, 4950 S. Lake Dr.

Lunches will be provided at the high school 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the same dates.

Adults can buy meals $2.25 for breakfast and $3.50 for lunch.

There's no service on July 4, 5 and 6.

Free bag lunches will be provided at Cudahy Middle School, 5530 S. Barland Ave.,  11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 16 to Aug 17. No breakfast will be available.

Persons over 18 years who are mentally or physically disabled and who also participate in a public or private non-profit school program during the regular school year may receive free meals.
