Help Shape The Future Of The Arlington Reservoir: Town

The town is asking for help in visioning what's next for the Arlington Reservoir.

ARLINGTON, MA — The future of the Arlington Reservoir is up for grabs right now. As part of an ongoing process to update the recreational area a committee has been meeting monthly to discuss next steps ahead of a plan to develop a CPA-funded master plan for improvements to the Arlington Reservoir.

In September the The Park & Recreation Commission, Conservation Commission and Reservoir Committee kicked off a series of public meetings on the future of the area with a walk and talk informational meeting. Now, Thursday Oct. 26 they are hosting a public input session with consultants at 6:30 p.m. at Arlington Town Hall Auditorium.

The Res was built in the 1870's as part of a municipal water supply system, but since the 1890's when Arlington started getting water elsewhere, it's been a park area for walking, swimming, fishing and boating.

The total area of the Res and its shoreline is about 65 acres, according to the Arlington Reservoir Committee's website.

Although all of the Res and adjacent land is owned by the Two of Arlington, about half of it is located in Lexington.

The Reservoir Committee of the Vision 2020 Environmental Task Group is a group of concerned citizens working to solve the Reservoir's problems. The Committee meets on the third Tuesday of the month in the Arlington Town Hall Annex, according to the committee's website.
