In his newest spy thriller, The Eighth Sister, Robert Dugoni puts Charles Jenkins, a character familiar to fans of the David Sloane series, front and center. Now retired from the CIA and living on an island off the coast of Washington, Jenkins is pulled back on duty to go undercover in Moscow to locate a Russian agent. Unfortunately, he returns home only to find he has been set up as a traitor.

Dugoni, who holds a law degree from UCLA as well as a journalism degree from Stanford University, already has books scheduled to be published in 2020, including the seventh book in the Tracy Crosswhite series, A Cold Trail. And yes, Charles Jenkins will now have his own series when The Last Agent is released in October 2020.

What's on your nightstand?

Kendra Elliot's soon-to-be-released The Last Sister.

Why do you recommend it?

Kendra writes terrific mysteries. I've been a fan of her writing and books for a while.

You have said you knew you wanted to be a writer since middle school. If you were going to give your 13-year-old self some writing advice, what would it be?

Read. Read. Read. Everything and anything.
