WITH Neil Lennon admitting life after Celtic has been difficult since leaving the club in the summer of 2014, Record Sport Online takes a look back at recent Celtic stars and how they have fared after they left the club.

The former Celtic boss has been in a dogfight since joining Bolton last year, as the financially stricken club look to stave off relegation for another year.

So out of the big names who have wanted to leave Paradise for something new, who has went on to better things and who has struggled to recreate the succes they enjoyed in Glasgow's East End.

The managers

Neil Lennon

Bolton boss Neil Lennon

Pros : As difficult as it has been for the former Celtic boss in Lancashire, there is no doubt he has learned plenty about managing on a budget with Bolton Wanderers.

The Northern Irishman is as well rounded a young manager as you could ask for, with experience of managing expectation with Celtic and motivating an underdog with Bolton.

Cons: Lennon was under no illusions how difficult the task with Bolton would be, but second season syndrome has set in as his relatively weak squad is getting exposed on a weekly basis.

As much as there is mitigating factors in Lennon's results, he is no longer viewed as the bright young thing he was at Celtic as he soaked up the plaudits for his side's run in the Champions League.

Gordon Strachan

Gordon Strachan

Pros:The former Celtic manager from 2005-2009, was up until a month ago was viewed as a real success managing the Scotland national team.

After defeats in Georgia, at home to Germany and a draw to Poland, Scotland's campaign was over.

Despite the disappointing end, many feel Strachan is still the man to end Scotland's neverending wait for an appearance in a major tournament.

Cons: After Celtic, Strachan took over at Middlesborugh. A club who had been in freefall since their relegation from the English Premier League.

After recruiting a host of familiar names from Scottish football, including Kris Boyd, Kevin Thomson and Scott McDonald, Strachan's side failed to come together and he resigned from his post in 2010 after a dismal start to his second season in charge.

Martin O’Neill

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill

Pros: After leaving Celtic, the now Republic of Ireland manager enjoyed a fruitful spell as manager of Aston Villa.

Even though his departure from the club in 2010 was acrimonious, O'Neill guided Villa to three consecutive sixth placed finishes.

O'Neill is currently riding a crest of a wave after securing the Republic of Ireland a playoff spot ahead of Scotland following an epic home win against World Champions Germany last week.

Cons: After a disappointing final season with Villa, O'Neill followed that up with a difficult spell managing Sunderland and was sacked in 2013.

Many felt O'Neill had lost his lustre but he has bounced back with an impressive showing with the Republic of Ireland.

Henrik Larsson

Sutton swaps shirts with Larsson after Barcelona win 3-1 in 2004

Pros:The King of Kings in they eyes of the Celtic faithful, put paid to the notion that he was a flat track bully who could only dominate in the backwaters of Scotland.

After leaving Celtic in 2004, Larsson scored 19 goals in 58 appearances for Barcelona but his contribution was much more than that. He was a veteran presence who scored big goals in big moments and changed the 2006 Champions League final with two assists as Barcelona defeated Arsenal 2-1 in Paris.

He then went on to enjoy a brief but telling loan spell with Manchester United in 2007, before returning to Sweden to see out his career.

Cons: Not many, perhaps his management record hasn't set the world alight, but his ability as player was unquestionable.

Stiliyan Petrov

Stiliyan relished the chance to charge the Hoops midfield again on Sunday

Pros: After lobbying for a move away from Celtic following a double winning campaign under Gordon Strachan in 2005/06, his wish was granted when his former manager Martin O'Neill stumped up £8.5 million to secure his services for Aston Villa.

After 6 seasons with Villa, two as the club captain, the energetic Bulgarian was diagnosed with Leukemia. Despite the devastating diagnosis, Petrov recovered and received unbelievable support from both Celtic and Aston Villa during his treatment.

Cons: Despite a great spell with Aston Villa, Petrov was never able to recreate his box-to-box ability and knack of scoring goals in England.

Dejection for Aiden McGeady at full-time

Pros: The former Celtic wing wizard made a bold move by leaving Celtic for Russian cracks Spartak Moscow in 2010.

After enjoying a mostly successful spell in Russsia, both on the pitch and financially, the Republic of Ireland international return to Britain to join Everton in 2014.

Cons: McGeady's time with Everton has been a disappointment. Despite several good showings early in the 2014.15 campaign, the wide man has been very much on the periphery at Goodison Park.

McGeady has been on the sidelines for the national team in recent games as well.

Gary Hooper

Gary Hooper may end up back at Parkhead if Norwich are relegated
Gary Hooper in action with Norwich

Pros: Arguably Celtic's best striker on a permanent contract since Henrik Larsson, Gary Hooper scored goals for fun in Scotland and made an impact in Europe as well.

Despite a less than stellar time at Norwich, Hooper has had his bumper pay packet to console him while he watches from the sidelines for Alex Neil's side.

Cons: Despite Chris Hughton's Norwich side rarely play two up top, Gary Hooper has definitely failed to show his best form on his return to England.

Rumours of rejecting a move to Sheffield Wednesday over family access to a corporate box does little to enhance his reputation.

Liam Miller

Celtic 2 Lyon 0: Liam Miller watches his header go past Gregory Coupet in the Lyon goal

Pros: The Bhoy wonder. After three injury plagued years in the Celtic reserves, Liam Miller emerged from nowhere to give the Celtic side of 2003/04 a real boost as his lively displays energised his side.

His performances didn't go unnoticed and Sir Alex Ferguson signed the midfielder on a pre contract from Celtic.

Cons: Everything that went after. After failing to show anything at Manchester United, Liam Miller went on a world tour of clubs to end his career.

After spells in England with Sunderland and Leeds, Miller returned to Scotland with Hibs before making a career in Australia.

Despite his modest success, he was never able to recreate his early breakthrough with Celtic.

Victor Wanyama

Southampton's former Celtic star Victor Wanyama

Pros: After dominating Scottish football and running the show in Europe, it was evident that Victor Wanyama's spell in Scotland was going to be a short one.

After Southampton payed a pretty £12.5 million for his services, the Kenyan powerhouse forged one of the best midfield partnerships in the Premier League with Morgan Schneiderlin as the Saints showed themselves as an emerging team in England.

Wanyama was this week nominated for African footballer of the year and was the subject of a potential bid from Tottenham Hotspur, a real rising star.

Cons: Not many, his passing is still erratic at times but there are few midfielders who dominate midfield like him.

KI Sung Yung

Swansea 0 Chelsea 0
Swansea 0 Chelsea 0

Pros: As technically cultured a player who has laced his boots at Celtic Park in recent seasons, he has been a success with Swansea during their emergence in English football.

Despite a year at sunderland, where Michael Laudrup made some bizarre decisions, Ki has regained his role in Garry Monk's outfit and is still a class act.

Cons: Despite all of his technical ability, Ki is still a player who can flirt in and out of games and with the emergence of Jonjo Shelvey his position is no longer as secure as it once was in South Wales.

Dinamo Moskva v Celtic 2009- Celtic win Champions League qualifier, first away win in 23 Euro games since 2003

Pros: The definition of a cult hero. he drove Celtic fans mad as well as thrilling them in equal measures.

During a mixed seven-year spell in Glasgow, Samaras provided real moments of class as well as plenty of times where he looked like an imposter.

Cons: After leaving the club last summer, Samaras has failed to make much of an impact elsewhere.

After failing to do anything of note with West Bromwich Albion, he has tried his luck with Middle Eastern side Al-Hilal where he has failed to score so far.
