Hulu Original Series to Be Released Weekly, Content Boss Says

TCA 2015: That now includes “The Mindy Project”

Hulu won’t be following the Netflix model of full-season episode dumps of its original series, company Head of Content Craig Erwich told reporters on Sunday — all of his original programming will be released one episode per week.

That now includes “The Mindy Project,” of course.

“Difficult People,” “Casual,” “The Hotwives of Las Vegas,” “The Awesomes,” and “Rocketjump: The Show” are also counted among Erwich’s expanding roster.

All of those — save Seth Meyers’ and Mike Shoemaker’s animated superhero cartoon “The Awesomes” — had panels Sunday at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Summer Press Tour.

“With all of our new originals, we will release episodes weekly,” Erwich (pictured above) said during his TCA session. “We want to give viewers the opportunity to discover their favorite shows every week.”

“Like you, we value the shared experience and the joy of the watercooler that is television,” he continued. “This will also allow us to get the shows out to our audiences faster, without waiting until full series completion.”

“And we want to give you, the writers, time to discover and hopefully celebrate these shows as well,” Erwich said, addressing the TV critics in the Beverly Hilton ballroom directly. “And don’t forget, with an on-demand service like Hulu, once a series airs, all episodes will be available at once for many years to come as part of our collection.”

Fox canceled “The Mindy Project” in May. Hulu revived it the same month, ordering 26 episodes.
