Frito-Lay has recalled its Smartfood Delight Sea Salt Flavored popcorn due to a milk allergy. Consumers that purchased the contaminated popcorn will receive a full refund. Another favorite snack food has fallen victim to a recall. Frito-Lay, a private PepsiCo Inc. company (PEP), has recalled select one-half ounce bags of Smartfood Delight Sea Salt Flavored Popcorn. The recall resulted from the popcorn inadvertently being filled with cheese-flavored tortilla chips that may produce a food allergy because it contained undeclared milk ingredients, according to the announcement by the company.

The Smartfood Delight Sea Salt Flavored popcorn was sold in individual half ounce bags. The bags have a guaranteed fresh date of 1 JAN 2019 as well as nine-digit manufacturing code of 615325107 that is printed on the front upper panel of the bag.

The affected popcorn also includes two variety packs – the 16-count Smartfood Delight Variety Pack Sack and 16-count Crunch & Pop Mix Variety Pack Sack.

The Smartfood Delight Variety Pack Sack has a use by date of 4 DEC 2018 or 18 DEC 2018 as well as an 11-digit manufacturing code printed on the outside of the bag that includes the letters AM in the second and third position of the code.

The Crunch & Pop Mix Variety Pack Sack features a use by date of 18 DEC 2018 or 1 JAN 2019 as well as an 11-digit manufacturing code on the outside of the bag that includes the letters AM in the second and third position of the code.

According to Frito-Lay, the recalled popcorn could produce a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction to consumers that have a sensitivity to milk or milk allergy. The issue with the popcorn was brought to Frito-Lays attention when a consumer notified the company that the Smartfood Delight bag they purchased contained tortilla chips. Frito-Lay voluntary recalled the popcorn and said it informed the FDA of the issue.

To receive a refund for the contaminated popcorn, consumers need to contact Frito-Lay Consumer Relations at 1-800-352-4477 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CST, Monday through Friday. You will receive full reimbursement of the purchased product.

The affected Smartfood popcorn was distributed and sold on internet websites as well as in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

According to the company, no other Smartfood, Smartfood Delight, or Smartfood variety packs or flavors are affected by the recall. To date, there have been no reports of illnesses from the snack food.
