With approximately 45 million Americans suffering from debilitating headaches that impact their lives, this innovative new treatment not only prevents the overuse of pain medications like Tylenol and Advil, but gives patients their lives back.

“Chronic headaches specifically are very debilitating,” said Dr. Dean Schweitzer of Valencia Headache Care. “You’re very depressed, you’re very lethargic, and you’re not energetic toward life. Sometimes you’ll just go along with it, and other times you just can’t go along with it. If you can get rid of it, it will change your life.”

Masking headache pain with medication for an extended period of time can be dangerous in a few ways.

“That’s proven that constant use of ibuprofen or Tylenol is very devastating to the other parts of your body,” Schweitzer said. “It’s not healthy for you to take Advil and Motrin and Tylenol all day, or even narcotics, which are worse because they’re addictive.”

Schweitzer emphasized the importance of getting to the root of the problem and treating it instead.

“If you have an infection, your doctor’s not just going to give you pain medication and just keep you on pain medication– they’re going to go to the source of the problem and get you on antibiotics to get rid of the problem,” he said. “So when you have a headache, if you’re taking medication, you’re just masking it out. We need to get to the source of the problem. We need to find out why you’re getting headaches, solve that problem.”

Recent studies have tied chronic headache and migraine pain to an imbalance in the bite, which creates stress on facial muscles as they overcompensate to try to correct it, which manifests itself in pain.

To fix this problem, the professionals at Valencia Headache Care use digital technology that allows them to see every distribution of pressure in the bite that they can use as a blueprint to make imperceptible adjustments over 12 weeks.

The gradual treatment process helps ensure that the patient’s treatment is non-invasive and without discomfort, according to Schweitzer.

“This is not dental work,” he said in an earlier interview. “We’re not trying to fix your teeth — these are very tiny and comfortable adjustments that are made over a period of time.”
