  • Monday, May 7, 2018
The No. 18 Lee women's golf team sits in fourth place after round one of the NCAA South Super Regional from the Germantown Country Club on Monday.

The Lady Flames shot an opening round 308 (+20) and are just five shots out of third place. The top three finishers will advance on to the NCAA National Championship in Houston, Texas.

No. 1 Nova Southeastern is one shot up on No. 5 Barry after the Sharks tallied a 296 (+8). The Bucs, the defending National Champions, are 9-over while No.
10 Rollins is third (+15).

After Lee there's a three-way tie for fifth place currently with No. 9 Lynn, No. 8 Florida Southern and No. 27 Lenoir-Rhyne all at 310 (+22).

Senior Caroline Moore led the Lady Flames with a 2-over-par 74 to open her tournament and is tied for sixth. Haverly Harrold and Sam Burrus followed at 77 to place 21st after the first 18 holes. Judianne Speach carded an 80 and is tied for 39th while Annika Gino followed with an 84.

"I thought our team did a nice job of hanging in there today, and it paid off with an overall good position after round one. It wasn't our best day execution wise, but it says a lot about the toughness of this team that they still found a way," said head coach John Maupin. "Caroline played a very good back nine today to give us a nice lift with her round. I really believe we've got some great golf ahead of us the rest of the way, we're gonna enjoy getting after it tomorrow."

Barry's Tilda Larsson fired a 4-under par 68 and is the leader in the clubhouse. West Florida's Paloma Vaccaro, playing as an individual, is second with a 2-under par 70 and is tied with Tampa's Kiira Riihijarvi.  Lenoir-Ryne's Ainee O'Connor was the only other play to avoid shooting over par in round one as she sits in fourth with an even-par 72.

The 54-hole event is playing at 5,966 yards and features 12 teams, nine of which are ranked in the top 20 and six individuals.

Lee will be looking to make a return trip to the national championship after claiming the third and final spot in the South Super Regional last year with a dramatic playoff victory over Nova Southeastern.
