Season 9 of Conan will return to TBS on January 22, with Conan O’Brien’s late-night talk show debuting its new 30-minute format that will air four nights a week in the 11 PM time slot.
The new format will feature a new, improved look for the show that will focus will be on “silly remote pieces, interviewing brilliant and distinct people,” O’Brien said during October’s final hourlong episode. During that show he also bid farewell to his longtime house band, Jimmy Vivino & The Basic Cable Band (the same band headed by Max Weinberg up until 2010).
While the show has been on hiatus to prepare for the revamp, O’Brien has been busy with an 18-city tour, Team Coco Presents Conan & Friends: An Evening of Stand-Up and Investment Tips, and the November launch of his podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend. In early 2019, a new website will debut called “Conan 25,” featuring a comprehensive, digitally remastered collection of thousands of episodes from O’Brien’s 25-year history on Late Night, The Tonight Show and Conan.
Team Coco will also continue the travel series, Conan: Without Borders, which won an Emmy in 2018. Its last special, a trip to Japan, aired November 28.
