Rangers are still searching for a new manager after sacking Pedro Caixinha last month.
Rangers legend Derek Johnstone has told the Glasgow Evening Times that he understands the club’s patience when it comes to finding a new manager.
The Gers sacked manager Pedro Caixinha last month after seven months in the Ibrox job, and many expected a replacement to be secured promptly.
However, caretaker boss Graeme Murty – who has won twice and lost once in his three games in charge – remains in the job, with no new manager in place yet.
Rangers’ search for a new boss is now approaching a month, and fans are becoming a little impatient with the pursuit of a new manager.
Whilst BBC Sport recently claimed that Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes is the top choice for the job, but no approach has been made, with Sky Bet now showing that ex-Rangers manager Alex McLeish is the favourite for the role.
It remains to be seen whether either manager land the job, and Rangers legend Derek Johnstone has offered his opinion on the situation.
Johnstone has told the Glasgow Evening Times that he understands why Rangers are taking so long to get the right man, and believes that director of football Mark Allen should be given time to do the job and find the right manager.
“The recruitment process for the next manager will be high on the agenda and people will be asking why it has taken more than four weeks since Caixinha was sacked to bring another boss in,” said Johnstone.
“But, as I have said, it is important for Rangers to get the right man in here and if it takes Mark Allen a bit of time before he recommends his man then so be it. You have to give him his place and let him make his decision. Then it will come down to the board once again,” he added.
