Arizona RB David Johnson ditched the gridiron to fly a fighter jet

Oct 12, 2018, 1:10 PM

It’s often been thrown around that the sky’s the limit for Cardinals running back David Johnson, but that may not be the case anymore.

Earlier this week, Johnson visited the Luke Air Force Base in Litchfield Park, Ariz. to co-pilot an F-16 Fighter Jet. Yes, you read that correctly.

The Arizona Cardinals’ official Twitter account posted a video taken by Johnson during his flight school training at the base. Last time I checked, phones aren’t allowed in school but I guess you can do what you want when you’re one of the top running backs in the world.

Johnson capped the 10-second video by telling Cardinals fans to “Pray for me.”

Whether he wants fans to pray for his safety or pray that he gets more than four targets this week against Minnesota is unclear, but his schooling payed off when he took flight on Tuesday.

He took flight with members of the 56th Fighter Wing, which is currently the Air Force’s only active-duty F-16 training wing. According to the Luke Air Force base website, the 56th Fighter Wing is responsible for the graduation of more than 400 pilots and 300 air control professionals each year.

A slideshow picturing Johnson’s time on the base is available on the Cardinals’ website.

As usual, social media had a field day with Johnson’s first experience as a pilot.
