As winter officially arrives Sunday, we head into the home stretch of the Christmas holiday season. It is also a critical point for the various organizations that depend upon giving.

Part of the Christmas tradition is the simple of act giving to others, especially to those in need.

Each year the West Central Tribune encourages individuals and organizations to support the various programs in your community that need your help.

The Warm the Children program, now in its 21st year, helps provide warm winter clothing to children in need in west central Minnesota. This program is administered by the West Central Tribune in partnership with Main Street Willmar.

Warm the Children is currently at only 60 percent of reaching its $37,000 goal for 2014. We need your help to reach that goal in order to serve all the children we can.

The Salvation Army of Willmar is in the midst of its annual Red Kettle campaign. Those contributions serve the needs within Kandiyohi County, as well as providing aid to the homeless.

The United Way of West Central Minnesota, based in Willmar, is also in the midst of its annual pledge campaign. This organization and its many programs serve the citizens of Kandiyohi County and surrounding communities.

To contribute or volunteer, contact these program as follows: Warm the Children at 320-235-1150, The Salvation Army at 320-235-2033 or the United Way of West Central Minnesota at 320-235-1050.

A special thank you to the volunteers: the Warm the Children coordinators and volunteer shoppers, The Salvation Army’s bell ringers and the United Way volunteers. They all make a difference right here in our communities.

The West Central Tribune encourages you to donate to all of these programs and/or the appropriate programs in your local community.

The giving of your support goes a long way for those in need.

And you receive the joy of Christmas giving.
